Meet Ted

Husband, father, Belleville resident, and business professional.I'm running for Belleville City Council because I believe in this community and the people who call it home.Residents deserve practical leadership, transparent decision-making, and someone who asks thoughtful questions and remains accountable for the results. Please take a few minutes to read my open letter below as you consider my candidacy for Belleville City Council – Ward 1.

open letter

Dear Residents,Over the years, many of us have asked similar questions. Why do taxes continue to rise? Why do we continue to hear about escalating costs and projects that require additional funding? How does our city continue to grow while ensuring life remains affordable for our families?Do we, as a community, feel connected to the decisions that are shaping our future? These are fair questions, and they are questions that deserve thoughtful answers. My decision to put my name forward for Ward 1 is part of my journey to better understand, to ask questions, and to help find answers for our community.Throughout my career in the private sector, I have been responsible for leading large, diverse teams and managing significant budgets where every dollar mattered, every decision had consequences, and results had to be measured. The residents of Belleville are the stakeholders of this community, and they deserve the same transparency, accountability, and thoughtful decision-making.I am not running because I believe I have all the answers.I am running because I believe practical leadership, accountability, honesty, and integrity are essential to earning trust and making good decisions.I've also learned that good leadership isn't just making decisions. It's helping people understand them.People may not always agree with a decision, but they deserve to understand it, to see a transparent process, and to know that those responsible are willing to be accountable for the outcome. They deserve to feel connected to the decisions that affect their daily lives and the future of our community.I believe the role of a councillor is to ask questions, review information, challenge assumptions, set direction, approve budgets, and ensure accountability.Belleville is where my family and I have chosen to build our lives, and like many of you, we want to see our city continue to grow while protecting strong municipal services, maintaining affordability, and creating opportunities that improve the quality of life for all residents.Over the coming months, I look forward to listening to residents, learning from your experiences, and being part of the conversations that will help shape our community's future.Sincerely,
Ted Barfett
